The City of Brookfield held its annual Arbor Day celebration at Swanson Elementary School on the morning of April 25, bringing together students, educators, and city leaders to honor the importance of nature in the community.
Swanson’s third-grade students painted rocks to adorn the new planting and opened the event with a performance of “A Trillion Trees,” a song that helped set the tone for a meaningful morning of reflection and recognition. City of Brookfield Mayor Steve Ponto, Elmbrook Superintendent Dr. Mark Hansen, members of the Elmbrook School Board, and city Parks and Recreation officials were all in attendance to show their support for the event and its message.
“We’re so grateful to the City of Brookfield, our district leaders, and community partners for making this celebration possible,” said Swanson Associate Principal Lindy DesJarlais. “It was a meaningful experience for our students to be part of something that connects learning with care for the environment.”
As part of the celebration, a hackberry tree was planted near the school’s playground sidewalk. The tree, donated by The Davey Tree Expert Company, serves as a living symbol of Brookfield’s dedication to environmental stewardship and education. This year marks Brookfield’s 27th consecutive Tree City USA designation from the Arbor Day Foundation, recognizing the city’s longstanding efforts to promote and maintain healthy urban forests.
The event was also sponsored by Raising Cane’s of Brookfield who donated a gift basket to the celebration., whose support helped bring together school and city partners for this celebration of growth, sustainability, and community connection.
